The Bottom Line
Good multimedia phone but let's hope that Samsung will offer a software flash or something to compensate the drawbacks
Pros
* Very sharp display
* Good megapixel camera
Cons
* No speakerphone in such a high-end phone is absurd
* Software sometimes freezes up
* Camera can't be used when cover closed
Description
* Technology support: CDMA
* bulkier than average at 4.20 ounces and 3.50 inches long
* One of America's first megapixel phone
Guide Review - Samsung A700 Review
The Samsung A700, also known as Samsung MM-A700, has a super sharp display with 262,000 colors and it shows. Quite a lot of things are right about the a700: good functionality, crisp keypad and appropriate battery life. Though the a700 is definitely better than its little brother, Verizon's a790, there are some annoyances. The software occasionally freezes up (and I've seen other such reports elsewhere on the web) and there is no way to use the camera when the clamshell cover is closed -- clearly a design mistake.
Though I didn't extensively test the megapixel camera, the pictures seem indeed to show a better image quality, less bluried, than the usual VGA cameras. They were also larger. The a700 is also the first cell phone to offer Sprint's video on demand service, a service with which I wasn't extra impressed. Most channels cost nearly 5$ a month and offer only little content. Let's consider it a first shot but I wouldn't recomment getting the Samsung for that feature only.
