The Bottom Line
This surprisingly feature-rich phone in a small & lightweight package would suit well the needs of demanding or business users who want a small phone. No speakerphone makes it less interesting for those who travel a lot, in which case the Siemens SL56 might be a similar but slightly better choice.
Pros
* Lovely small size and design at only 2.9 ounces
* The camera with good set of functions
* Easy do-it-yourself free personalization
Cons
* No Bluetooth and limited infrared capabilities
Description
* Technology support: GSM
* Full-color TFT display
* Camera phone with functions such as flash and zoom
Guide Review - Samsung e715 Review
Let's start right away by saying that a camera in such a small and lightweight phone is a tour de force. And with a zoom, brightness and white balance control a flash and even the multi-shot feature, it's almost unreal. Keep in mind that, as with most camera phones, the pictures of the Samsung e715 aren't particularly good, only acceptable.
The Samsung e715 also has a good sound quality, an excellent TFT full-color internal display and an organic external display. It also has an infrared communication port but it doesn't work as straightforwardly as with Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones. When I tried sending ringtones and graphics to the Samsung e715 by infrared, it simply rejected them. I lacked time to further investigate that issue (if someone knows how to do it, please let me know). At least, the phone accepts downloadable ringtones in a free, do-it-yourself manner, via wireless web download using the method provided here at About.com.
The battery life was acceptable but the central button is dedicated to T-Mobile services, thus it can't be used to "press Ok" when selecting menu items and hoping constantly between the navigation key and the left "select" button is annoying. But that detail and the more complicated infrared use are about all I can say against the Samsung e715... Well, let's also mention that a phone of this class should have Bluetooth... but manufacturers seem so reluctant with Bluetooth, too bad.
